Inchmurrin
Island has been owned by the Scott Family for the past 70 years. Prior to
this time the Island was owned by Mr Melville of the India Tyre Manufacturers,
before this the Duke of Montrose used the Island as a shooting estate.
The Island is steeped in history and is reputed to have been visited by
such greats as Saint Mirrren, (whom the island is named after), Robert the
Bruce, King James 6th of Scotland and Mary Queen of Scots.
The ruins of a 7th century monastery and the Lennox Castle can still be
seen today.
Current
residents number 10, one horse, one dog, a herd of beef cattle, a few goats
and quite a lot of pheasants.
Inchmurrin is the largest inland island in Britain and the most southerly
on Loch Lomond. The Island is 1.5 miles long, 3/4 mile wide and can be fully
explored by visitors. The are many lovely walks and safe beaches for swimming
