Rowerdennan
is a truly picturesque village on the East side of Loch Lomond and is the
farthest North you can take a vehicle. The trip is worth every mile traveled
lying at the foot of Ben Lomond with some of the most spectacular views
northwards. It is small compact however it can supply all any visitor would
need. The car park at the end of the Village has a road leading to the Youth
Hostel, which was once a shooting lodge, it is now not only a youth hostel
it is also an activity Centre, with tuition in windsurfing, canoeing, archery
and orienteering by professional instructors.
If
you wish to visit this village, there effectively is no public transport
with bus routes terminating at Balmaha. There is a ferry that runs during
the summer season from April to September. It travels between Inverbeg and
Rowerdennan at weekends only until May. There is also a ferry service run
by Cruise Loch Lomond calling at Inverbeg, Inversnaid and Tarbet. The most
common form of transport in this area is of course walking. For the boater
there are facilities for stopping at the refurbished pier. For the motorist
there is a large well laid out car park amongst the woods the north end
of the village, with route maps for walkers on display.
Accommodation
at the village is plentiful with the Hotel a caravan and camping park, the
Rowerdennan Lodge's and of course the youth hostel. The hotel caters for
all needs and is busy most of the summer season. The village has a small
safe beach, if any of the younger feeling want to go for a paddle.
